Doc got whacked by a Botnet that somehow broke through my security and CloudFlares as well. It’s a possibility they got in through a so-far unpatched version of WordPress 6.4.2. I was doing site maintenance and noticed all the site images were not loading. Logging Into my shared hosting account revealed WordPress /uploads/ directory was gone. It contained archives dating back to the year 2000. But thanks to God and my faithful daily backup policy nothing was lost. There was 21GB of data!
Hmmmm.. Someone deleted all my media! Thank God for backups!!
Daym, that sucked, and I could have zipped up the missing media data from the day before backup and reuploaded it, though, at this slow WiFi upload speed, it would have taken a day minimum. Then if the transfer was interrupted I’d be starting over!
52FLC was drawing a lot of traffic from all over the world with its auto-translation. It auto-detects a site visitor’s browser language settings and switches to the language instantly. Thinking about the cost of a dedicated instance I came up with this.
Bandwidth and disk space are reasonable if you know where to find it. I have been with T-Mobile for 26 years and their billing is always screwed up. Three months ago I called and gave them another debit card to put on file for my $51 monthly bill and gave the T-Mobile rep a new address. Well, wouldn’t you know my next auto-pay bounced? On the phone again with billing support and the previous CS rep did not update my address and now changed zip code. Then January’s auto-pay also was rejected by my bank. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, as it’s often said. Got a good English-speaking girl in the Philippines telling her to cancel my account.
A few months ago Boost Mobile was running a $10 month special on Facebook. Seemed every page I tapped on that ad and it was following me around. Unlimited talk/text with 2GB of data, with an included sim card and free shipping. J ordered it and within a couple of weeks, Boost Mbiles sim card arrived. I had another old phone to install it on. It was a no-brainer to go with Boost Mobile their data speed. was nearly double of T-Mobile speed. And the voice is clear and loud enough to hear well.
So wrapping this post up it was a no-brainer to go with Boost Mobile. Not only did I save $51 I also got a dedicated instance (server) in Sweden for $40 per month. It’s got 6 Intel CPUs and 160 GB of disk space. And I pocked a dollar to boot!
The benefit of running 52FLC through CloudFlares global content network is that botnet protection connection from say Japan will be routed through CF’s nearest node preventing bouncing the net through dozens of hops slowing the speed way down.
I believe it’s best to be hosted off-shore anyway. There is nothing illegal about 52FLC. There is no *porn or anything indecent on the site. There is however a ton of support for the number 1 best president America has had, Donald J. Trump dating back to 2015 when he announced his candidacy.
